THE BLACKBAND FAMILY HOME • BALBOA ISLAND, CA
After 18+ years in the interior design business, Blackband Design owners Greg and Wendy Blackband took a turn on the “client side” to renovate their existing Balboa Island home. Wendy grew up on the charming island in Newport Beach, CA and after traveling the world, she returned with her husband to make Balboa home again for their family. The Blackbands creatively transformed their “small box with a red tile roof” (as Wendy enduring calls the structure) into a Santa Barbara style facade with a sophisticated mix of styles from around the globe inside. Working with the existing footprint, the Blackbands opened up the main living spaces to offer more room for entertaining, which they enjoy doing regularly. Wendy loves bold color and pattern so she layered in many of her favorites that her clients have passed on creating a space that truly makes her happy. Every detail is special to Wendy, down to the intricate hardware selections, 3,000+ individually placed pebbles in the shower, carved wood paneling from Thailand in the kitchen and treasured artwork by her mother, Judith Corona.
